Botulinum toxin type A is a purified natural protein complex. The micro-applications are almost painless. They act by temporarily weakening the muscles, which then cannot contract. The end result is a diminished number of unwanted facial wrinkles and expression lines. The effect can be seen a few days after the treatment and lasts for about 6 months. It has been observed that with subsequent applications the effects last longer and new wrinkles take longer to appear.

The areas where it is most frequently applied are the brow, the forehead and crow’s feet, however it is also effective in other areas such as the neck or the expression lines above the upper lip.

The treatment is safe, effective and well-tolerated. Faulty application might provoke temporary facial paralysis with certain asymmetries, which will disappear after some months.

Its abuse can result in the development of antibodies. This event rarely occurs when small doses are used.
